Both Can Be Right: Incoherence as a Weapon

Both Can Be Right

Incoherence as a Weapon
"We have no need for a coherent worldview. Both can be right." — Adolf Hitler

This phrase, spoken nearly a century ago, explains both the rise of Nazism and your social media feed today.

The Aviador Who Stopped Looking at the Sky

Bender was not a scientist. He was an aviator—a German pilot who, after the war, found himself imprisoned in France. It was there, behind bars, that he encountered something that would change his understanding of reality forever.

In the prison library, among forgotten journals and outdated newspapers, Bender discovered articles about the Hollow Earth theory. Someone, somewhere, had published the idea that we live on the inner crust of a hollow sphere. That there is a central sun inside the Earth. That the sky is actually an infinite rocky dome. That the stars are merely blue grains of light.

And Bender read it. And he believed it.

Not because there was proof. Not because there was evidence. Not because it made sense with what he saw when he looked up at the sky.

He believed because it fit his worldview.

Louis Pauwels and Jacques Bergier, in their seminal work The Morning of the Magicians, recorded something crucial about this moment. At no point did Bender stop and think: "Wait... this is not what I see when I look up."

He did not confront the theory with reality.

He abandoned reality to embrace the theory.

Why Did He Do This?

Because the Hollow Earth offered something that orthodox science did not offer: a myth, a mystery, a universe inhabited by hidden forces. Bender—the aviator, the man of action—needed this. It wasn't truth. It was cosmic comfort.

Think about what this means. Here was a man who had flown through actual skies, who had seen with his own eyes the curvature of the Earth, the vastness of the atmosphere, the reality of our world. And yet, when presented with a fantasy that contradicted everything he had experienced, he chose the fantasy.

Why? Because reality is hard. Reality is cold. Reality doesn't care about your need for meaning, for mystery, for specialness. The Hollow Earth gave Bender all of these things. It made the universe smaller, more manageable, more about him.

The Pattern: When ideology meets reality, the ideologue abandons reality. Not because the ideology is true, but because it is comfortable.

The Nazi Strategy: Incoherence as Power

Now comes the detail that nobody notices.

The Nazis did not adopt the Hollow Earth theory because it was true. They adopted it because it served them.

It served the Nordic cosmology. It served the idea of a closed, protected, special world. It served the myth of eternal ice and pure race. It gave them a universe that was literally built around their supposed superiority.

But here is the damned fact—the fact that history tries to hide:

While embracing Bender and his Hollow Earth, the same Nazis were financing quantum physics research. They were developing V2 rockets. They were investing in cutting-edge technology. They were pushing the boundaries of what was scientifically possible.

Total incoherence.

And it worked.

The Power of Contradiction

Because incoherence has a power that coherence does not have: it attracts everyone at the same time.

The mystic is enchanted by the myth of the Hollow Earth.
The engineer is excited by the V2 rocket.
The warrior is mobilized by the Jewish enemy.
The poet is moved by the destiny of the race.

Nobody has to give up what they believe.

Everyone can be right. At the same time.

This is not philosophy. This is mass mobilization strategy.

And Hitler understood this before anyone else.

His phrase—"we don't need coherence"—was not a confession of weakness. It was a declaration of power. Because only those who control the narrative can afford to be incoherent.

And that is exactly what led them to power: being in the right time, with the right myth... and the right incoherence.

The Mirror of Today

Now I'm going to ask you a question that will make you uncomfortable.

Why can't you say today that man is man and woman is woman without being canceled, persecuted, fired, ridiculed?

What is the difference between this and the Nazis persecuting Einstein "because he was Jewish"?

None.

The structure is identical: an ideology that demands you deny objective reality.

1933: "Race is more important than science."

2025: "Identity is more important than biology."

1933: "If you are Jewish, your physics is invalid."

2025: "If you don't identify, your reality is invalid."

1933: "Both can be right—Hollow Earth AND atom."

2025: "Both can be right—man AND woman, biology AND identity."

The incoherence is the same.

Hitler's phrase—"we don't need coherence"—did not die in 1945. It was merely repurposed.

And today, under a new banner, it demands the same price: your ability to distinguish reality from fantasy.

The Modern Benders

Bender read about the Hollow Earth and believed. Not because it was true. But because he wanted to believe.

And today, how many Benders exist?

How many people are reading the woke narrative and believing? Not because it makes sense. Not because it is true. But because it fits their worldview.

At no point do they stop and think: "Wait... this is not what I see when I look at reality."

They do not confront ideology with facts.

They abandon facts to embrace ideology.

Why? Because the woke narrative offers something that reality does not offer: moral comfort, belonging, superiority.

It is the same mechanism.

Only the myth has changed.

And the dictatorship is the same.

The Connection Nobody Makes

Pauwels ends this chapter with a phrase that should be in every history book:

"What matters is not coherence and unity of the whole, but rather the destruction of systems derived from logic, from forms of rational thought."

Translated:

The goal is not to build something coherent.

It is to destroy your ability to think rationally.

And this is exactly what is happening now.

The woke dictatorship does not need to be coherent. It needs to nullify your ability to question.

Bender did not question the Hollow Earth.

You are not questioning the gender narrative.

Why?

Because questioning hurts. Questioning isolates. Questioning requires you to be alone with reality.

And reality is hard.

But it is the only thing that is real.

The Historical Pattern

This is not the first time this has happened. History is littered with examples of ideologies that demanded the abandonment of reality:

The Lysenko affair in Soviet Russia, where genetics was rejected because it didn't fit Marxist ideology, leading to famine and the death of scientists.
The medieval Church's persecution of heliocentrism, because placing the Sun at the center threatened the theological hierarchy.
The Nazi "German physics" movement that rejected Einstein's relativity because its Jewish author made it ideologically impure.
The Great Leap Forward in China, where agricultural science was abandoned in favor of ideological purity, resulting in the death of millions.

Every single time, the pattern is identical:

Ideology > Reality > Death

Hitler came to power because people stopped questioning.

Bender believed in the Hollow Earth because he stopped looking at the sky.

And you are believing the woke narrative because you have stopped looking at reality.

The Question Is Not: "Are you being manipulated?"

The Question Is: "Which reality are you being invited to deny?"

The Technology of Control: Then and Now

There is another layer to this, one that Pauwels hints at but that we must make explicit.

The Nazis had radio. They had newspapers. They had film. They used these technologies to spread their incoherent message, to create the illusion of consensus, to make the fantastic seem normal.

But they were limited by physics. By the cost of printing. By the range of radio signals. By the need for physical distribution.

We have no such limits.

Today, the incoherent narrative spreads at the speed of light. It reaches every corner of the globe instantly. It creates echo chambers so perfect that contradiction cannot penetrate them.

The algorithm does not care about truth. It cares about engagement. And nothing engages like righteous indignation, like moral superiority, like the comfort of belonging to the enlightened few.

Bender had to find a newspaper in a prison library.

You have the entire narrative delivered to your pocket, perfectly tailored to your biases, constantly reinforced, never challenged.

Which dictatorship is more effective?

The Psychology of Surrender

Let us be honest about what is happening here, about why this is so difficult to resist.

When you question the narrative, you are not just questioning an idea. You are questioning your tribe. You are risking your belonging. You are threatening your identity.

Human beings are social creatures. We evolved in groups. Exile was death. Rejection was death. Being cast out from the tribe was a death sentence.

And so we have evolved powerful psychological mechanisms to avoid this fate. We conform. We self-censor. We convince ourselves that the group is right, even when our eyes tell us otherwise.

Bender was not stupid. He was afraid. Afraid of being wrong. Afraid of being alone. Afraid of a universe without mystery, without specialness, without meaning.

And so are you.

The woke narrative offers you safety. It offers you belonging. It offers you the certainty that you are on the right side of history, that you are one of the good people, that you are morally superior to those who question.

Reality offers you nothing but truth.

Which would you rather have?

❖ ❖ ❖

The Cost of Abandoning Reality

Let us speak plainly about what happens when a society abandons reality for ideology.

It does not end with "harmless" delusions about Hollow Earths or gender fluidity. It ends with death.

When the Nazis abandoned genetics for racial ideology, they did not just write bad science papers. They sterilized the "unfit." They murdered the "degenerate." They built death camps.

When the Soviets abandoned agricultural science for Lysenkoism, they did not just have academic debates. They created famine. They killed millions.

When you abandon biological reality for gender ideology, what do you think will come next?

Do you think it will stop at pronouns? At bathroom access? At sports categories?

Or will it follow the same pattern?

First, the denial of reality.
Then, the persecution of those who speak reality.
Then, the elimination of those who embody reality.

We are not there yet. But we are on the path. And the path has been walked before.

The Choice

Think about this.

1933 was not an accident. It was a choice.

Millions of people chose to stop questioning. They chose comfort over truth. They chose belonging over reality. They chose the myth over the sky.

And 2025 is also a choice.

You can choose to keep believing. To keep scrolling. To keep accepting the narrative because it is easier, because it is safer, because it makes you feel good.

Or you can choose to look up.

To look at reality, even when it is hard. Even when it is lonely. Even when it costs you.

Bender chose not to look up. And he died believing in a fantasy.

The Germans chose not to look up. And they built a nightmare.

What will you choose?

We have seen that:

Bender was an aviator, not a scientist.
He believed in the Hollow Earth because he wanted to believe.
At no point did he confront the theory with reality.
The Nazis used incoherence as a strategy of power.
The phrase "both can be right" is a weapon, not a philosophy.
This same weapon is being used today.

There is no exercise. No challenge. No call to action.

Only this: reality.

Man is man.
Woman is woman.
Sky is sky.
Earth is Earth.

The rest is myth.

And myth, when it becomes ideology, becomes dictatorship.
